Cultivos de moluscos bivalvos OceanDocs
Pascual, M.S.; Zampatti, E.A..
Bivalve culture in Argentina is beginning to develop commercially. Research was carried out at the North Patagonian gulfs (San Matias, San Jose and Nuevo)and focused three native species: the tehuelche scallop Aequipecten tehuelchus, the puelche oyster Ostrea puelchana and the common mussel Mytilus edulis platensis. Results achieved on each of these three species were different. In the case of scallops, the development of commercial aquaculture did not seem promising for many years due to the fact that production was sustained by natural populations: the dredge fishery of the San Matias Gulf and the diving fishery of the San Jose Gulf. Preliminary culture experiments dealt with larval fixation on artificial collectors and growth to commercial size on...

Fish and fishery products trade in Brazil, 2005 to 2015: A review of available data and trends Scientia Agricola
Barone,Rafael Simões Coelho; Lorenz,Evandro Kleber; Sonoda,Daniel Yokoyama; Cyrino,José Eurico Possebon.
ABSTRACT: Along the last ten years fish and fishery product trade in Brazil has been on a downward trajectory turning a profit of US$ 98.6 million in 2005 into a loss of US$ 1.25 billion by 2014. On the other hand, the country is a leading producer of grains and has the third largest animal feed industry in the world, which has added 5.5 million hectares of freshwater reservoirs and 3.5 million km2 of an exclusive marine economic zone in the same period, a sizable potential for development of the aquaculture industry. This study aims at unveiling strategies for the reduction of the deficit in the Brazilian seafood trade balance, based on critical analysis of the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of imported fishery products. The fish and fishery...

Incidencia de Yersinia ruckeri y Edwarsiella sp. en especies de interés comercial de la acuicultura cubana en el período 2006-2008 OceanDocs
Martínez, M. T.; Aguilera, Y.; Pozo, M.; Silveira, R.; Rubio, M.; Amador, Z.M..

Production and application of on-grown Artemia in freshwater ornamental fish farm OMA
Lim, L.C.; Soh, A.; Dhert, P.; Sorgeloos, P..
This paper describes a pilot culture system for the production of on-grown Artemia in freshwater ornamental fish farms. The system had 21 culture units, each consisting essentially of three components: an oval-shaped raceway, an air-water lift system and two waste collectors. Using artificial seawater at 20 ppt for culture and at a mean production rate of 3 kg/m3 of water in a 12-day cycle, the system had a production capacity of 8 metric tons of on- grown Artemia a year. Biochemical analyses were preformed to evaluate the nutritional value of the on-grown Artemia against three conventional live feeds, viz. live Artemia nauplii, live Moina...
